Cherry blossom engagement photos are always so fun in the spring. It’s easily one of my busiest weeks for engagement sessions by far. And after a slow winter season, I’m always happy to be back outside, hanging with couples, doing what I love (with warm weather finally on our side, thank you).
The one tricky part? Timing. Cherry blossoms are definitely a “blink and you’ll miss it” situation. They only look like that for a short window every year, and that window doesn’t always line up perfectly with save-the-date timelines. Most couples want their photos done within a certain time frame so they can get those out, but the blossoms run on their own schedule and don’t really care about ours!
If you can time it right, it’s 100% worth it. The whole session feels soft and romantic without us having to force anything — it’s just naturally beautiful. If we miss it though, it’s not the end of the world. We can always pivot to another spring location, or you can treat cherry blossoms as an anniversary session next year (would be such a cute tradition).
A few things to know if you’re hoping for cherry blossom engagement photos:
- Be flexible with dates. If your schedule allows it, having a couple “backup options” in the same week makes a huge difference.
- Weekdays are your best friend. Popular blossom spots get packed fast, especially on weekends. Weekdays usually mean fewer people and a more relaxed vibe.
- Go early or go golden. Sunrise sessions are calm and quiet (and the light is unreal), and golden hour gives you that warm, glowy look that makes everything feel extra dreamy.
- Expect a crowd — and don’t stress. Even at busy locations, I’ll pose and frame you in a way that keeps the focus on you two. We make it work. For that reason alone, sunrise may be worth it.
- Plan outfits with movement. Flowy dresses, layers, and lighter tones look amazing with blossoms, and they photograph so well when there’s a little breeze.
If you’re thinking about doing your engagement photos in cherry blossoms season, reach out early. That week fills up every year, and I’d love to help you figure out the best timing (and a backup plan) so you still get photos you’re obsessed with whether you catch blossoms or not.
