The 1909 Wedding in Topanga Canyon | Ryan & Rakeem

Ryan and Rakeem’s wedding at The 1909 was joyful, intimate, and so uniquely them. They kept it small with only their closest family and friends, which made everything feel even more personal. The venue felt like an extra large home just big enough for a dinner party. By the end of the night, I genuinely felt like I’d gotten to know everyone. That’s the magic of a wedding day as intimate as this one. It wasn’t just a wedding you watch happen; it was a wedding I felt a part of from start to finish.

I got there early enough to grab a few getting-ready photos, and their style choices were unreal. Ryan’s red studded suit was such a moment, and Rakeem’s cloak? Absolutely iconic. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room during their vows. It was one of those ceremonies where you could feel how loved they are — not just by each other, but by everyone there. The ceremony space is technically backlit, but the shaded woods in the back make the light so easy. The sunlight filters through the trees in a way that keeps everything soft and flattering instead of too bright. It was one of those setups that just feels perfect on camera and in person.

At the reception, Ryan’s father gave the most heartwarming speech, and one of my favorite details of the whole day was the cake, lovingly made by Rakeem’s sister. Those family touches made everything feel even more meaningful, like a celebration that was as beautiful as it was personal. The weather showed out, and it stayed warm right up until the sun dipped, perfectly timed for the transition to the indoor dance floor and the start of the after party.
