As a New York City wedding photographer, couples often ask my opinion on where to have engagement photos made in NYC, I always recommend making it something personal. Your location should be something that is meaningful and relevant to you as a couple. Another way to think of it as more of an experience and less of a “photoshoot.” More than anything we should be aiming to make memories during your session. If you are having fun and enjoying your time together as a couple, the photos will reflect that. These local bar engagement photos are a wonderful example of how to make your engagement session unique to you.
LOCAL BAR ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS
For Hanna and Peter, every aspect of their session was personal and meaningful. We began at the Paris Cafe in the Seaport District near their apartment. Additionally, the Seaport District is extra special as they got engaged right here in their neighborhood with their dearest friends. They are regulars at the Paris Cafe, made apparent by their friendly relationship with the restaurant staff. We had a drink to begin (never a bad idea if photo shoots make you nervous, like me) and hung out on the patio for some quick photos. We then wandered around the Seaport District and found little cobblestone street that was blocked off and made a great spot for us to move around for some more photos.
EAST VILLAGE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS
Next, we moved to a even more meaningful location – the East Village street where Hanna and Peter began their relationship. They met as neighbors living in the same apartment building, bonded over their dogs, and the rest is history. Their first date was right down the street from their apartment building and they ended the night at the $1 pizza place ($1.50 now 4 years later – thank you inflation) pictured below. It was only right that we end the shoot with pizza!
