Wedding Poses | How To Pose On Your Wedding Day

Are you wondering how to pose on your wedding day? Or maybe you are a wedding photography looking for posing inspiration. These are some of my go-to, classic wedding photography poses. A lot of these happen very naturally, without any prompting, on a wedding day. But if you need some help getting here, that’s okay too! Being in front of the camera can feel unnatural and it is easy to freeze up! That’s why I’ve compiled this list of some of my favorite wedding photo poses to be your guide for to pose for wedding pictures!

All of these photos below were taken from Christie & Kyle’s wedding at The River Cafe. See more River Cafe wedding photos here.

1. Walking Towards The Camera

This is one of my favorite wedding pictures poses that I do with every couple. I’ll have you walk slowly toward me, staying close and focused on each other rather than the camera. It creates natural movement and connection, while still giving a composed, editorial frame. This is one moment that very rarely has to be scripted because you do so much walking anyways, but if we find a nice backdrop, this is an easy, relaxed “wedding pose” that anyone can do.

2. Walking Away From The Camera

This is less about direction and more about feeling – just the two of you moving through the space together. It reads quiet and cinematic, and often ends up feeling the real of all your candid wedding photos. The motion and look back feels very in the moment.

3. Cheers With Champagne Glasses

A favorite wedding pose of mine that also needs very little direction on my end! Capturing the toasts and highlights of the day naturally bring smiles and joy, which I’m always looking to incorporate into your wedding pictures. I also love this one becaue gives your hands something to do and instantly loosens the moment into something celebratory and candid.

4.Laughing Pictures

This usually comes from a genuine moment, not me asking you to “smile.” A quick comment, a whisper, or just letting you interact naturally with each other or your guests, this is where the in-between, genuine expressions happen.

5. Fix The Train / Carry The Train

Whether you’re adjusting the dress or your groom is picking it up for you, this creates a natural interaction with a purpose. It creates connection, feels intimate, a little cinematic, and highlights the movement of the wedding dress.

6. Lean On Shoulder

This is one that it is sometimes guided by me, if it feels natural. I’ll guide you into a simple, comfortable hold – nothing over-posed. It creates softness and closeness, and photographs in a way that feels calm and grounded. This pose is a great opportunity for me to get a few different crops – close up, mid range, and full body.

7. Detail Close-Ups

I’ll move in and focus on hands, textures, and small gestures – nothing overly styled, just as you are, a true reflection of your wedding day essence. These images add depth to the gallery and capture the quieter, more delicate details of the day.

8. Formal Portrait Looking At Camera

This is your classic, elevated portrait—clean posture, direct eye contact, minimal movement. It’s intentional and timeless, with a slightly editorial edge. As much as I gravitate towards candid wedding poses, this is a staple that you, and especially your parents, will appreciate for years to come.

9. Veil Toss

The veil provides a lot of interesting movement on its own, but I can also toss or lift the veil so it catches light and air. It adds a little drama without feeling overdone, and gives you something dynamic within a natural moment.

10. Kiss And Lean

I’ll guide you into a soft kiss and then have you stay close for a beat after. That in-between moment when you’re still leaning into each other is usually the one that feels the most effortless.
