Sophia and Travis’s NYC Yacht Wedding was untraditional in more ways than one. From our very first phone call, they made it clear this wouldn’t be a traditional wedding. My first clue that this would be a pretty unique NYC wedding was that it was going to be on a boat! Photos were important to them, but the other traditional stuff was not a priority. Their main priority was having a good time with their guests at their fabulous NYC yacht wedding.
At the start of the day, Sophia and Travis forgo tradition by getting ready together. As we all know, “first looks” have become a popular alternative to the usual tradition of hiding the bride until the ceremony. However, Sophia and Travis take this a step further by spending their entire wedding morning together. They buttoned each other up and helped each other get ready. You can even see Travis helping Sophia with the steaming of the dress. What a sweet way to start the day!
Even with a smaller wedding day like this, time alone with your partner on your wedding day is sparse. I loved how this alternative gives the bride and groom time to be with each other during the day and still get to enjoy partying with their guests later. Furthermore, part of the stress of a normal wedding day can be navigating hiding the bride and/or the dress from the groom. A relaxed wedding morning like this one is a welcome break from the more stressful morning that is typical!
NYC Yacht Wedding With a View of the Statue of Liberty
After we set sail out onto the Hudson, our captain found the perfect spot for the ceremony. We settled right near the Statue of Liberty with a view of the Manhattan skyline as well. NYC is home to many stunning rooftops with views of the city, but the best way to see the skyline is surely by boat. Additionally, being out on the water still allowed them to have a wedding in New York City without dealing with all the hustle and bustle. Who knew that was possible?! Even then, we did have some party boats float by every now and then who offered cheers of congratulations!
